About CoH – Why a Social Cooperative?
The primary objective of a social cooperative is the general benefit of the community through the social integration of people.
A cooperative is owned, operated and democratically controlled by its members, be they individual, group, or capital enterprise. Decisions and direction balance the need for profitability with the wider interests of the community. The guidelines of operation are traditionally based on what is known as the Rochdale Principles.
Work is underway to determine an operating structure for Communities of Health that is:
- Driven by the CoH purpose and guiding principles;
- Positioned to openly pursue expansion opportunities;
- Properly aligned and entrusted with the resources required to initiate and sustain the work in a growing number of CoH communities.
